Living Wills
Will planning is not an easy topic to discuss, especially with those you love. But, if anything HAS TO BE DONE, planning Wills is a must. It needs to be approached with delicate sensitivity.
Parents may or may not bring up the topic of their Will if they think you are uncomfortable with the subject matter. By the same token they may feel the need, or that the time is right to talk to you about it.
You might lead into the subject by asking if they have any plans about what they want you to do if one or the other becomes infirm. You could ask them what they know about Living Wills and what they mean? You could explain the importance of what a Living Will means for the family, and the tentative legal responsibilities left for the family if there are no written instructions to follow if anything happens to them before death. A Living Will ceases upon death. At that time, a Family Will is needed to also be drafted which takes effect upon death to explain what your parents want done with their possessions, property and family. Offering your family help could be most assuring for all concerned.
